Harrison is mourning the loss of an eighth-grader who, according to police, suffered an accident while riding an electric bike on the roof of a parking garage on Sunday.

According to an MTA police spokesperson, five minors were on the roof of the fifth floor of the Harrison public parking garage at around 5:47 p.m. on Sunday. Thirteen-year-old Mark Anthony Giordano lost control of the electric bike he was riding and was discovered at ground level next to the parking garage, the MTA police statement said.

Giordano was taken by local EMS to White Plains Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the MTA police statement said. The other minors at the scene were not injured. According to MTA police, a preliminary investigation did not reveal any suspicion of foul play.

The garage is not reserved exclusively for rail commuters, but is open to the general public.

Giordano “was well-liked by his teachers, coaches and friends. Our outstanding teachers, coaches and SROs immediately stepped in to support his family and our students,” Harrison Central School District Superintendent Louis N. Wool said in the statement on the district’s website.
