Man from Westerlo arrested after standoff

ALBANY, NY (NEWS10) — A Westerlo man is accused of endangering several children under the age of 15. He was arrested after an altercation with police outside his home. Thomas Conover, 35, faces multiple charges.

On Saturday at around 9:28 p.m., police officers responded to a 911 call about a shooting in Westerlo. After an investigation, police said Conover was asked to leave the victim’s property, which he did. He later returned with a shotgun.


According to state police, Conover displayed a firearm and pointed it at a large group of people, including several children, all under the age of 15. Conover then fled before police arrived.

Police said they went to his home, where he barricaded himself and did not leave. After a brief discussion, Conover voluntarily left the home and was arrested without further incident. Police said the seized firearm was recovered along with other illegally possessed weapons.

  • Reckless endangerment in the second degree
  • Criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree
  • Endangering the welfare of a child (nine counts)

Conover was taken to the New Scotland State Police where his case was registered. He was arraigned before the Westerlo Court and released on bail.
