Louisville police are currently investigating the Scheffler incident

Louisville’s mayor identified the pedestrian struck and killed by a shuttle bus Friday before the PGA Championship as a local man named John Mills.

“This morning our city experienced a tragic accident that claimed the life of John Mills, a Louisville resident who will be greatly missed by his family and our community. Our focus is on this family who has lost their loved one,” Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said in a statement.

The PGA of America said earlier Friday that the organization was “devastated to learn that an employee of one of our vendors was tragically struck and killed by a shuttle bus in front of Valhalla Golf Club.”

And in a new statement, the PGA said: “Our primary concern today remains with the family of John Mills, who died in a tragic accident while reporting for work earlier today.”

The PGA’s updated statement also addressed Scottie Scheffler, who was arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer outside Valhalla Golf Club in an unrelated incident.

The statement continued: “Concerning the incident involving Scottie Scheffler, we are cooperating fully while local authorities investigate what happened.”

“While the legal process is ongoing, questions should be directed to Scheffler’s attorney or local authorities.”
