Lynchburg District | VDOT Lynchburg District Weekly Traffic Alert June 10-16, 2024

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Highway work is planned that will require road/lane/structure closures. However, work may be postponed or canceled due to weather or other issues. Entries in italics contain new/updated information. For current information, call 511 or visit www.511Virginia.org.

District-wide activities:

Crews carry out a variety of activities throughout the district including bridge and guardrail maintenance, bush/tree/branch trimming, pothole, surfacing and shoulder work, surface treatment/paving, work orders, mowing, stump removal, drainage repairs/work and roadside cleaning.

Working at specific locations:

Amherst County:
Route 29 and Route 151 (Patrick Henry Hwy.) – Construction of a limited crossing turnaround, storm water drainage, hazard lights, traffic lights. The Route 608 (Toytown Rd.) crossing will be closed for the first phase of construction. Expected reopening of the crossing in July 2024. Use caution and be alert for changes in traffic patterns during construction. Expected completion of the project in November 2024.

Appomattox County:
Route 131 (Old Courthouse Rd.) from Route 460 BUS (Confederate Blvd.) to Route 460 Bypass (Richmond Highway) – Reconstruction of Route 131. Traffic shift in place. Lane closures expected. Caution. Expected completion January 2025.

Charlotte County:
Route 664 (Butterwood Rd.) – Pipe replacement. Diversion in place. Expected completion June 14, 2024.
Route 15 (Farmville Highway) at Route 15/360 BUS (Four Locust Highway) – Roundabout project. The traffic pattern change will now allow for two-lane travel on Route 15/360 BUS (Four Locust Highway) and a stop condition for southbound traffic on Route 15 (Farmville Highway). The on-ramps from Route 15 to Route 15/360 (Kings Highway) and the off-ramps from Route 15/360 (Kings Highway) to Route 15 will be closed to traffic. Message boards and detour signs will alert motorists of the change and direct traffic along the detour. Estimated completion of entire project: October 2024.

County of Cumberland:
Route 45 (Cartersville Rd.) to Route 690 (Columbia Rd.) – Roundabout project. Speed ​​limit has been reduced to 35 mph in the construction area. Expect changes in traffic pattern with grade changes along Route 45. Traffic will be on gravel during this time and lane closures are expected. Use caution. Estimated completion November 2024.

Halifax County:
Route 724 (Drybridge Road) – Bridge repairs. Route 724 (Drybridge Road) is temporarily closed to through traffic. The expected reopening is July 19, weather permitting.
Route 360 ​​(James D. Hagood Highway) from Route 716 (Wolf Trap Rd.) to Route 344 (Scottsburg Rd.) – Safety improvements. Shoulder widening, rumble strips, guard rail replacement. Lane closures expected. Use caution. Estimated completion November 2024.
Route 501 (LP Bailey Memorial Highway) to Route 628 (Chestnut Road) – Intersection improvement project. Shoulder and lane closures expected. Temporary traffic signals will keep traffic on Route 501 and Route 628 in one lane until approximately the end of August 2024. Use caution. Expected completion of entire project in December 2024.
Route 645 (State Shed Rd.) – Culvert repair – Route 645 is closed. Detour is in place. Estimated completion June 17, 2024.

Nelson County:
Route 29, between Route 6 (River Rd.) and Route 718 (Mountain Cove Rd.) – Widening of the shoulders, installation of rumble strips and crash barriers. The work will begin on March 18th and will result in alternating lane closures. Expected completion in January 2025.
Route 60 (Richmond Highway) over the James River – Replacement of the bridge deck. Lane closures and changes in traffic flow. Traffic will use the other side of the bridge to cross. The bridge is expected to be provisionally opened to normal traffic during the week of June 10-14, 2024. Expected completion July 2024.

Pittsburgh County:
Route 631 (Dews Rd.) – Culvert repairs. Route 641 (Dews Rd.) will be temporarily closed to through traffic from May 29 through an estimated June 14, 2024.
Route 656 (Kerns Church Rd.) – Repairs to culverts. Effective May 29, Route 656 will be closed to through traffic from Route 712 (White Ridge Road) to the intersection with Route 713 (Rock Springs Road). Expected to open June 30, 2024.
Route 761 (Straightstone Rd.) – Bridge replacement. Route 761 (Straightstone Road) will be temporarily closed to through traffic from Route 604 (Glade Road) to the intersection of Route 604 (Glade Road) from June 10 through an estimated August 8, 2024.

Prince Edward County:
Route 665 (Worsham Road) – Bridge replacement. Route 665 (Worsham Road) is closed to through traffic from Route 15 (Farmville Road) to the intersection with Route 630 (Redd Shop Road). A signed detour is in place that utilizes Route 15 via Route 628 (Granite Falls Blvd.) via Route 630 (Oak Ridge Road) back to Route 665. Estimated completion: June 11, 2024.
