Dorchester man arrested after allegedly breaking into woman’s home while she was inside – Boston News, Weather, Sports

BOSTON (WHDH) – A Dorchester man is facing charges after allegedly breaking into a woman’s home while she was inside late last week.

George Correa, 64, was arrested in the Marlborough Street area on Friday evening, according to police. He appeared in court on Monday and pleaded not guilty.

In a statement, Boston police said officers first responded around 10:15 p.m. Friday and spoke to a woman who said she was about to go to bed when she saw an unknown man in her home.

According to police, the woman told investigators she ran down the stairs. At about the same time, she said, the unknown person ran upstairs and left her house from her rooftop terrace.

Police began searching for the person and eventually found an open window on the ground floor of a nearby construction site. Boston police said officers combed the site and found a backpack that matched the description of the one the person was carrying.

Police said officers soon found a man matching the description of the unknown person on Marlborough Street. He was lying in bushes and had a screwdriver nearby, police said.

Officers eventually arrested the man and seized stolen jewelry, money and “personal items” belonging to the victim.

Boston police said Correa was charged with breaking and entering a building at night (both felonies), possession of a burglary tool and a Class B drug, theft from a building and providing false identification information to authorities by the person arrested.

During the arraignment, prosecutors asked that Correa be held on $50,000 cash bail.

The defense requested a lower bail.

Citing a number of previous convictions on similar charges, the judge said the prosecution’s bail request was too low and instead set bail at $100,000.

Correa is due to appear in court again on July 8.
