Road aggression on the Ravenel Bridge leads to shots fired, police investigate incident

A man faces attempted murder charges after being accused of shooting at a vehicle on the Ravenel Bridge on Saturday following a reported incident of driving aggression.

Elijah Joseph Maestas, 21, is charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to online jail records.

According to an incident report, the shooting occurred on the north side of the bridge.

The victim told police that he had probably accidentally cut off another vehicle’s right of way when changing lanes.

The passenger allegedly showed the middle finger, whereupon the vehicle moved into the lane next to him.

The victim told police they saw the driver with a silver handgun and then heard a gunshot. The victim called police after exiting the bridge and noticed a bullet hole in her vehicle, the report said.

Maestas’ bail was set at a total of $150,000 and he was held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
